Programs & Activities

There are many different programs and activities run in the Centre either by the Glen Iris Road Uniting Church or other providers. Enquiries are warmly welcomed for every program and activity. You will also find contact details on our community notice board.

Fellowship, Craft, Conversation

ReelTime - Film Discussion Group

Meets monthly in the daytime to watch and discuss a film chosen from a broad range of genres

Friday Morning Tea

A monthly morning tea and activity program for older men and women. Activities include Scrabble, Rummikub, knitting or simply conversation.

In Stitches

A social group whose members bring their own sewing or other handiwork to do while chatting

Probus

Part of the “family of Rotary” serving the social needs of a community for people retired or semi-retired from the workforce who join together in clubs, to keep their minds active, expand their interests and to enjoy friendship

Toastmaster

Is the world’s most successful communication and leadership program. Learn in a supportive, enjoyable club environment at your own pace

Saturday Morning Drop In

An opportunity to call into the Centre for coffee and a chat between 10 and 11 am on a Saturday

 

Spirituality

Adult Christian Faith Group

Short-course sessions held throughout the year. Contact the Centre office for information on the next course

Theological Book Discussion Group

A monthly discussion group based on theological books or books strongly influenced by matters of faith

Heart & Soul Music

A quarterly Sunday afternoon singing favourite hymns in the former Wesleyan chapel. This is a community singing afternoon, not a choir

Progressive Christian Network Forum

Promotes progressive Christian thought and practice; explores the implications of critical biblical scholarship and the emerging proposals of eminent contemporary theologians, scholars and others; and investigates alternatives to traditional religious beliefs and practices and new ways to understand religious faith.

Health, Fitness & Well Being

Eastern School of Yoga

Instruction for beginners and advanced students during day or evening classes. The presenter is Swami Anandakapila's senior teaching student who has also studied with the late Yogamaharishi Dr Swami Gitananda Giri Guru Maharaj. The school is an Esoteric Branch open to students of all levels

Exercise 2 Music

A program for adults who seek an exercise program that aids fitness in a pleasant group environment

Gentle Exercise Group

A group of older adults who exercise to music to improve general fitness. It enhances flexibility, mobility and balance. There is no running or jumping and there are no complicated routines

Pilates

A physical fitness system that focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles

Your Healthy Spine

A twice weekly exercise group to enhance healthy spines run by Ashburton Community Services

Step by Step

A weekly supported walking group designed for both healthy and frail people

Chatterbox Club

Speech and drama classes to assist children in their personal development and communication skills, delivered in a style that is motivating, challenging and enjoyable while being fun, friendly, social and supportive

Enhance Education

A small educational based business that prides itself on delivering high quality VCE Biology programs in Melbourne, providing students with extensive summary notes, worked examples and practice examination style questions

Hey Dee Ho Music

Aims to provide babies, toddlers, pre- school children and their parents or care givers an opportunity to have fun together sharing the pleasure of music. All activities in the musical program involve adults participating alongside children. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and non-threatening

Kumon

Encourages each child to learn at a pace with which they will be comfortable and advance independently through individual effort. It guides mastery of the basics of reading and math, improves concentration and study habits, increases self-discipline and self-confidence. In short, encourages each student to reach their full potential

LearningLand

Provides a place where children can explore language, literacy & numeracy in a fun filled and stimulating environment. All three of their programs recognise current research which emphasises the critical importance of these early experiences in brain development

Mini Maestros

Offers fun and educational music programs for children, including babies, toddlers and preschoolers, aged 6 months to 5 years, that will help children to foster an appreciation of music to last a lifetime. Singing, dancing, playing percussion instruments and musical games stimulate the children's creativity and imagination

Ring O'Roses Dance for Children

Nurtures children’s creativity through the love of dance by offering ballet for 4-5 year olds, and ballet, jazz & hip hop for 6 to 12 year olds: www.ringorosesdanceforchildren.com.au
